User Testing Survey

Since the initial game design is coming to a close, we are begining to think about user testing, attached is a copy of the survey we will be handing out when we are ready to commence user testing.

Keep an eye out for the testing dates, but as yet we would like to have two stages and a cut scene for this process so we can get more extensive user feedbac

The NEXT design document

Sorry there hasn’t been much activity on the Blip blog lately, we ahve been ironing out the final code errors of the X-Men stage and now we have a complete stage ready for user testing.  We are developing a test schedule and survey for people to fill out when after playing the game.

In the meantime below is an updated copy of the Blip design document.

The Adventures of Blip V2.20

Tuesday on Blip

No .swf is gonna be posted today, the Batman and X-Men stages are nearing completion. Today we wrote the code for Tzat’s collisions, actionScript is becoming a little easier now and we are needing a little less help. We successfully created a setInterval for BLIPS! bullets, and finshed Tzatz death sequence and Health bar.

Pawel began adding some more sound to the Batman stage, using an online resource to gather some of the ‘Zone’ sound effects for this stage.

Though it may seem as though we are getting on well, there is still a lot of work to do. We still need to draw the background for the Mission Impossible stage and begin storyboarding the cut scenes. Once we have two complete stages though we will link the two stages together and begin user testing.

The Advance of Blip

The past week on Blip has been very exciting. Pawel and I have decided to go all out with the production of this game and put in as much time as we can to produce the results we want.

We are now 90% of the way through the coding of the stages. Buy the end of this week we will have a 100% playable level to put out for user testing.

This week our code took us to new levels (no pun intended) we established hitTest actionscript and worked out how to play an animation and then remove a movie clip from the stage. Blip is now fully animated with 6 expressive forms so far, we hope that by the end of the game we wil have around 10 expressions for him.

A lot of the stage items have now been drawn including, DNA for the xmen stage, the exit door and Tzat’s bombs. Tzat has also been animated with a couple of expressive forms. These are going to be really fun to use in the cut scenes.

A massive accomplishment for us (with the help of david) was Blips teleport sequence. Since we decided to make the design change and remove the ladders from the game, we thought it was necessary to animate BLIP as he enters the teleport and as he re-appears. After much deliberation with actionScript we successfully created a generalistic piece of code that can be used across all the stage providing we keep our instance names the same.

Below is a test .swf file of the Xmen stage. Feel free to download it and have a play. Its still only in beta stage and we still haven’t established gravity on this stage yet.
